First local TV channel goes on air in Zabul

Aug 13, 2015 - 16:40

QALAT (Pajhwok):  For the first time in the past 14 years, the state-run Radio Television Afghanistaninfo-icon (RTA) on Thursday took the lead to open a local studio in southern Zabul province and start broadcasting programmes.

Local officials said programmes aired from the studio would play a positive role in enlightening the minds of local populations.

RTA official in Zabul  Bismillah Ludin told Pajhwok Afghan News initially the channel would air its programmes from 4am to 6pm and the timing would be extended once resources increased.

He said they had been trying for the last few years to make functional the channel in Zabul and they finally succeeded in doing so.

Ludin urged the youth and journalists to help the studio improve the quality of its programmes.

Meanwhile, the provincial governor urged the channel officials to broadcast programmes in line with social norms.

Mohammad Anwar Ishaqzai said religious and culture programmes should be given a priority in order knowledge could be spread among the people.

He said the media played a positive role in improving mental capacity of the people and strengthening relations between the public and the government.

Currently, one state-run and two private FM radio channels have been operating in Zabul.
