Improved Af-Pak cooperation to yield positive results: US
WASHINGTON (Pajhwok): Co-operation and communication between Afghanistan and Pakistan can only lead to positive and tangible results, the United States said Thursday as a high level Afghan delegation reached Islamabad to convey a strong message to Pakistani authorities in the aftermath of the series of terrorists’ attacks that has rocked Kabul for the past one week now.
“We welcome the dialogue that continues to occur between Afghanistan and Pakistan,” the State Department Spokesperson, John Kirby, told reporters at his daily news conference.
In response to a question, he said that “I would draw your attention to meetings as recently as today with counterterrorism officials from both countries talking and discussing ways to bolster security in both countries. We have said before, this is a common, shared challenge in across that border and in that border area.”
Kirby said that “so it’s encouraging. It’s promising that they’re having, again, discussions today. We welcome that, because we’ve long said that cooperation and communication between the two can only lead to positive results if it continues and if it really leads to some sort of tangible, shared commitments.”
The focus of the United States, he said, is on continuing to support the Afghan people and Afghan National Security Forces as they continue to secure their own borders and their own people, and that’s what the Resolute Support Mission is all about.
