3-fold increase in number of returnees: Balkhi
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Refugee and Repatriation Minister on Sunday said the number of Afghan families returning from Iran and Pakistan witnessed a three-fold increase during the first six months of the year.
Syed Hussain Alami Balkhi told reporters in Kabul about 17,000 refugees had returned from Iran and Pakistan during the same period in 2014 against 46,000 this year.
Most of the families retuned from Iran. They included around 50,000 refugees who had been lacking legal stay documents and their member could reach 200,000 till the end of the year, the minister said.
He informed Pakistan would start registering Afghan refugees from August 25 in presence of the Afghan Refugee Ministry representatives.
