Aug 17, 2015 - 10:59

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has ordered the officials concerned distribution of electronic identity cards on trial basis, the Presidential Palace said in a statement on Monday.

The statement said that a special meeting with regard of electronic ID cards was attended by Interior Minister Noor-Ul-Haq Ulumi, Minister for Information Technology Abdul Razaq Wahidi, President’s Special Advisor Dr. Mohammad Akram Khpalwak and the ID cards distribution office head Humayun Muhtat.

The meeting was on Sunday evening. Ghani told officials that the trial version of the e-ID cards distribution would help identify technical problems.

The officials assured the president that they were prepared for distribution of the computerized e-ID cards.

Muhtat said that they had planned to start the distribution of ID cards in eight centers and 24 ministries in the capital Kabul. He assured the president that the problems in his office were resolved.

The participants called the distribution of electronic ID cards an important issue for Afghans and said that the distribution of the cards would begin in the next few days.

The meeting also discussed Afghanistaninfo-icon Independent Day falling on August 19.
