Samim Khpalwak, the spokesman for Kandahar province, told Pajhwok Afghan News that eleven militants were killed, six others wounded and huge cache of arms had been seized after intense gun battle between rebels and security forces in Maroof district.

He said wife of Talibaninfo-icon commander was killed when a Taliban commander was fixing the land mine in the same district.

Separately, a civilian was killed and another wounded in roadside landmine blast in Ghorak district, he added.

Meanwhile, Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for Maidan Wardak governor, said three insurgents were killed and as many wounded during joint security forces operation on Friday night in Jaghto district.

Three rebels were seriously wounded in the offensive in Syed Abad district, he said, adding that a Taliban fighter was arrested when he was planting a roadside bomb.

A civilian was killed in a rocket launcher attack fired by rebels while another was shot dead by militants on Friday, the governor spokesman said.
