Afghan Muaythai team bags 3 gold medals
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghan Muaythai athletes have won three gold and a silver medals in the international Muay Thai competitions held among 1,500 athletes in Thailand, an official said.
The competitions were held from 13 to 23 August in Thailand’s capital Bangkok with athletes from more than 100 countries.
Afghanistan was represented by three athletes in the championship.
Mir Hussein Hossaini, Muaythai Federation head, said he was satisfied with the performance of his athletes for grabbing gold and silver medals.
According to Husseini, Ibrahim Haidary, Abdullah Amiri, and Jawad Gheljai bagged gold medals while Mohammad Yousuf Jahangir won silver.
The athletes, he said, managed to defeat their rivals from India, the US, Kazakhstan and Indonesia.
Earlier in 2014 also, Afghanistan’s Muaythai team had won two gold and two bronze medals in the competitions held in Malaysia.
