Conflicting views about casualties in Helmand offensive
LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Security officials and Taliban claimed inflicting heavy casualties on each other during anti-insurgents offensive by Afghan security forces in southern Helmand province.
Col. Mohammad Sarwar Khushal, commander of the 215th Maiwand Military Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Afghan forces launched operations in Khanshin district on Sunday.
At least 25 rebels were killed and an Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier was wounded during the clash, he said, adding that some areas were also cleared of militants.
But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed militants offered resistance to Afghan forces in the firefight, leaving 10 soldiers dead.
A statement released by the 215th Maiwand Military Corps said that Afghan forces conducted air operation in Mohammad Lal area of Musa Kala district on Sunday.
But Qari Yousuf Ahmadi claimed that militants captured two security posts in Musa Kala offensive. Taliban also seized 14 weapons and two vehicles from Afghan forces, he added.
