Road blockade sends prices soaring in Kohistanat
SAR-I-PUL CITY (Pajhwok): The prices of necessary food items have increased manifold than its retail prices due to blockade of road leading to Kohistanat district of northern Sar-i-Pul province, residents said on Monday.
The road had been blocked by Taliban 17-days back, said the residents. They said insurgents have blocked the road by putting huge stones in the middle of the road.
Police Chief Mohammad Asif Jabbarkhel confirmed increase in prices of commodities. He said efforts were underway to reopen the road for traffic.
Faiz Mohammad, a businessman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the price of one litre petrol jumped from 45 to 120 afghanis, diesel from 43 to 85 afghanis, while the prices of 20 litres oil soared from 1,200 to 1,800 afghanis and a bag of 50 kilograms of sugar reached from 1,300 to 2,000 afghanis.
He said the residents of locality were unable to afford the prices and they were facing with serious problems.
