Baghlan attorney-general shot dead; son escapes unhurt
PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The attorney general for northern Baghlan province was shot dead in an attack in Pul-i-Khumri, the provincial capital, on Tuesday morning.
Eyewitnesses said the attorney general was going from home to office when a group of gunmen attacked him near a Qand (Sweets) factory in the city at around 7:30am. The attackers managed to escape.
A taxi driver and eyewitness, Mohiuddin, told Pajhwok Afghan News the official came under gunfire from another car with tinted glasses, which suddenly came out of a street to the road.
He said a bullet hit Col. Syed Mansoor in his neck, killing him instantly. His son, who was driving the vehicle, survived.
Provincial police chief Col. Abdul Bashir said a police party had been dispatched to the site for investigation. No arrests have been made so far.
No any groups have so far claimed responsibility for the attack on Mansoor, who previously served as an interrogator.
