Sep 10, 2015 - 20:22

HERAT (Pajhwok): A young boy has been rescued and three suspected kidnappers detained in western Herat province, the governor said on Thursday.

Mohammad Asif Rahimi said the boy had been kidnapped 11 days back in Darb-i-Malik locality of Herat city. The victim was a resident of Baba Haji locality in 12th police district, he said.

According to the governor, the kidnappers had asked the boy’s family for $200,000 in ransom, but he was released without anything paid to the abductors.

Rahimi said the detained kidnappers had confessed to their crimes in initial investigations.

Meanwhile, clashes among two Talibaninfo-icon groups left eight fighters dead and seven more wounded in Zer Koh area of Shindand district.

Ihsanullah Hayat, the governor’s spokesperson, told Pajhwok Afghan News the clashes that broke out between gunmen loyal to two rival Taliban commanders on Wednesday afternoon were still ongoing.

The Taliban have not commented about the incident yet.
