US special envoy lauds Afghan govt’s policies
National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar met the acting US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Gerrit Blink, Senior Advisor and Director for South Asian Affairs at the US National Security Council Courtney Cooper and US Ambassador P. Michael McKinley on Saturday, the Afghanistan National Security Council said in a statement.
Atmar thanked the people and the government of the United States for their sustainable support with the people and the government of Afghanistan.
For peace and stability in Afghanistan, the country’s national security forces needed training and equipment from NATO, Atmar said in the statement.
Lasting stability could come with positive changes in the living conditions of the Afghans, he said, urging international support for President Ashraf Ghani’s plan to achieve self-sufficiency for Afghanistan through integrating regional economies and increasing regional economic cooperation.
Gerrit Blink said his country supported the programmes and policies of the unity government for stability and economic development of Afghanistan.
He said the US recognised Afghanistan’s role economic development of the region and supported all initiatives of President Ghani in this regard.
Outcomes of the RECCA and SOM conferences and Afghanistan’s preparations for the 70th UN General Assembly also came up for discussion at the meeting, the statement said.
