Graveling of 10.5-km road gets under way in Kunar
ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Construction and graveling work on a 10.5 kilometres road was launched in the Noorgal district of eastern Kunar province on Sunday, officials said.
The road would be graveled from the district centre to Mazar Dara at a cost of 29 million afghanis from the development budget of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD).
Rural Rehabilitation and Development Director Mohammad Jafar Jabarkhel said tribal elders of the valley had guaranteed the security of road workers and engineers.
Nearly 75 percent of people of the district live in Mazar Dara, but they have no paved road, according to tribal elder Maulvi Abdul Ghaffar.
He said sometimes they lost sick people on the way when they wanted to transfer them to hospital -- about a day-long foot journey.
During the launching ceremony, Governor Wahidullah Kalimzai urged the area people to help in implementation of the project. For the first time, the road would be graveled and paved next year, he concluded.
