Badakhshan University gets agriculture faculty building

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): A building for the Agricultureinfo-icon Faculty of Badakhshan University was inaugurated providing, officials said on Thursday.

The building, having 36 rooms, a conference hall and other facilities,was constructed by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) at a cost of more than $950,000.

Funded by Germany, the project would facilitates students of agriculture in the northern Badakhshan province, UniversityChancellorKhusraw Nazari said.

During the inauguration ceremony, Nazari said students of the faculty previously attended classes in containers. But with the construction of the building, 150 students of the faculty will get a proper study environmentinfo-icon.

A total of 4,500 students, 40 percent of them females, are currently enrolled in eight faculties of the newly-established university.The chancellor urged reopening of the medical faculty, which was closed in 2003.

In response, Higher Educationinfo-icon MinisterFarida Momand said the medical faculty at the university would be reopened only after the required standards were met.

“Currently, there are no qualified teachers, a standard hospital or a well-equipped lab for the medical faculty. As a result, we can’t urgently think about the establishment of the faculty,” she concluded.
