6 police killed, Taliban leader captured in Badakhshan
FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): The rebels killed six Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel in the Baharak district of northern Badakhshan province, where a Taliban-designated district chief was detained along three associates in Kasham district, an official said on Saturday.
Ahmad Naveed Frotan, the governor’s spokesperson told Pajhwok Afghan News that the slain policemen were busy taking dinner when the militants attacked them in the Surkham area of Baharak district. The Taliban also seized some weapons, he said.
On the other hand, the insurgent group claimed killing six ALP members and seizing a tank, a Ranger pick-up, a machinegun and five Kalashnikovs in Baharak district.
Separately, Taliban’s shadow district chief for Kasham Qari Nasir was captured along with three supporters by security forces, the governor’s spokesman said. Qari Nasir had allegedly killed a former district chief.
