Kidnapped passengers rescued in Ghazni
GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Passengers, kidnapped a day earlier in Andar district of southern Ghazni province on their way to southeastern Paktika province, were freed on Sunday, local officials said.
The people were traveling from Ghazni to Paktika on Saturday when Taliban militants kidnapped them in Khani area of the district.
The governor’s spokesman, Shafiq Nang, told Pajhwok Afghan News five people had been kidnapped by Taliban militants and all of them were released on Sunday.
However, Andar district chief Mohammad Qasim Disiwal said militants had kidnapped 50 people from their cars. He said the militants later released 48 of them and efforts to secure the release of the rest were underway.
A resident of the area, Abdullah, said the kidnapped people were members of the Afghan Local Police (ALP) and their relatives.
The Taliban have so far not commented about the incident.
