Taliban kill 7 men accused of robbing migrants
ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Taliban shot dead seven robbers accused of looting illegal migrants in Char Borjak district of southwestern Nimroz province near the border with Iran, an official said on Monday.
The suspected muggers used to rob those crossing the Afghan-Iran border in a Taliban controlled area, a local official, who wished anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
But the Taliban chased them and gunned them down on Monday, he said, adding that people trying cross the border into Iran and reach European countries illegally had to pass though the Taliban-controlled area.
A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, confirmed the fighters had killed thieves snatching money and other materials from passengers. Taliban fighters also recovered money and a number of weapons from the slain individuals, he said.
Sayed Ahmad, a resident of the western Herat province, appreciated the Taliban’s move, saying he had borrowed 350,000 afghanis to go to Iran in search of work. “If I did not find work in Iran, I will proceed to Turkey or Europe,” he said.
