MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Five people including the Dawlatabad district police chief were killed in a roadside bombing in northern Balkh province on Tuesday, an official said.

The explosion took place at around 9:00am close to the district centre, the provincial police spokesman, Sher Durrani, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

District police commander Hayatullah Rogh was killed along with four policemen and several others wounded when the vehicle they were travelling in struck the roadside bomb.

A delegation has been sent to the area for investigation, the spokesman said.  The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
