MAIMANA (Pajhwok): An anti-Taliban militia leader and his friend were killed in a suicide attack that injured another three persons in Sherin Tagab district of northern Faryab province on Sunday, an official said.
The Sherin Tagab district chief, Syed Luqman Gahrik, told Pajhwok Afghan News the suicide attacker was on a bicycle. He detonated his explosive-filled vest on approaching the uprising leader, Haji Faiz Mohammad, at about 2pm.
Faiz Mohammad was injured in the blast and later succumbed to his injuries at the Afghan-Turk hospital in Maimana, the provincial capital, the official told Pajhwok Afghan News.
A friend of Faiz Mohammad was also killed and his three bodyguards were wounded in the suicide attack, he said.
An eyewitness, who declined to be named, said the Junbish-i-Milli Islami party commander, Haji Faiz Mohammad, was walking to the main mosque in the district when a young man approached him on bicycle and detonated explosives strapped to his body.
He said the attacker’s body turned into pieces and only his head with long hairs remained unaffected in the blast.
