30 Daesh fighters killed in fresh operation in Achin district
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Local officials on Tuesday said that more than 30 Islamic State (IS) or Daesh militants were killed during a fresh operation launched in Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province.
Local officials this morning said that hundreds of IS militants attacked security posts in Achin district Monday midnight.
Provincial police spokesman Lt. Col. Hazrat Hussain Mashraqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News that additional reinforcement personnel had arrived to Achin district and killed 30 of the IS rebels during their ground and air operation.
He said that Daesh fighters who stormed two security posts were pushed back.
Mashraqiwal added that only three security personnel were wounded during the fight.
A Pajhwok Afghan News correspondent in the area Babrak Amirzada also said that IS fighters were pushed back and operation was still underway in local villages.
He said that a number of helicopters of the Ministry of Defense (MoD) had arrived and targeted the rebels’ hideouts.
Achin district chief Haji Ghalib early this morning said that the militants attacked security posts in Shadal, Abdulkhail, Kushtal, Achen and some other villages around 3am last night.
He said that around 600 IS fighters who were equipped on small and heavy weapons had participated the attacks.
Four security forces were wounded in an ambush of Daesh fighters, he added, but said that more than 20 militants suffered casualties in retaliatory attack of Afghan forces.

Daesh militants did not comment on the incident yet.
Three days earlier, the rebel group carried out armed attacks on several security posts in Achin district but faced strong resistance from Afghan forces in which 100 of the insurgents were killed and 30 others wounded.
