Dr Abdullah leads high powered Afghan delegation to UNGA
WASHINGTON (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah is leading a high powered Afghan delegation to the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly.
Accompanied by Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani, and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hekmat Karzai, Dr. Abdullah during his eight day US trip will address the UN General Assembly on the situation in Afghanistan, the region, and related global issues.
On the first day of his official visit, Abdullah attended the address by His Holiness Pope Francis to the United Nations General Assembly.
In his address to the opening plenary of the United Nations summit for adoption of the post 2015 development agenda, Dr Abdullah reiterated Afghanistan’s commitment and dedication to implementing this agenda, and the unwavering efforts in fulfilling all its goals and targets by 2030.
“A big part of Afghanistan’s Transformation Decade (2015-2025) coincides with the 2030 development agenda. Afghanistan will remain committed to developing strategies and policies to integrate our national development agenda with the 2030 development agenda,” he said.
In addition to high level events, Dr. Abdullah attended numerous bilateral meeting along with other members of the Afghan delegation. Key meetings included Bill Gates, Nicholas Haysom, Head of UNAMA, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Jens Stolenberg, NATO Secretary General, and others.
Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Karzai chaired a 6+1 event attended by India, Pakistan, Iran, China, USA, and Russia on the 4th round of informal dialogue on regional stability where an update on Afghanistan’s security and economic condition was provided.
