Up to 100 Daesh militants killed in Achin offensive
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Up to 100 Daesh or Islamic State fighters have been killed during security forces’ operations in the Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province, police said on Wednesday.
Nangarhar police spokesman Col. Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News that hundreds of Daesh affiliated fighters attacked security posts in Abdul Khel area on Tuesday morning.
He said the militants were killed after fresh forces led by the provincial police chief reached the district and the ground and air offensive continued till Tuesday evening, killing up to 100 Daesh fighters.
Dozens more IS militants were wounded during the operation, he said, adding a search operation in the area was ongoing since yesterday.
Achin district chief Ghalib Mujahid also claimed the IS fighters had sustained heavy casualties during the ongoing operation. He said clashes in some areas were still underway.
The group has so far said nothing about the operation in Achin.
