Biden, Abdullah confer on military offensive in Kunduz
WASHINGTON (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on Tuesday met US Vice President Joe Biden on the current situation in Afghanistan, particularly the ongoing military operation in Kunduz province.
“They discussed ongoing military operations in Kunduz and the broader security situation,” the White House said after the meeting between the two leaders on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
They conferred on the country’s progress and confirmed the importance of urgently addressing Afghanistan’s remaining challenges. Biden stressed the Afghan government’s role in building the foundations for its long-term success and delivering on its promises to the people.
A statement from the White House said: “They reaffirmed their commitment to the historic strategic partnership and honoured the heroic sacrifices of Afghan and Coalition partners striving for lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan.”
