New Kabul Bank branch closed in Daikundi
NEILI (Pajhwok): The New Kabul Bank branch’s closure in central Daikundi province has irked dozens of residents who daily queue up in front of the bank to withdraw salaries or get other services.
Daikundi residents say the branch remained closed since last Sunday and every time they visited the branch they were told to visit next day.
Mohammad Nabi, who works at a construction company in Khadir district of Daikundi, said he had been coming to the New Kabul Bank branch for the last five days to collect his salary but in vain.
He told Pajwhok Afghan News he did not have enough money to travel between the bank and his home or stay in a hotel. He said his family was in need of household items he was supposed to buy in Neili city, the provincial capital.
Abdul Rassoul, a resident of Ashterlai district and an army soldier, said during the past three months, he took 10 days off from duty but wasted one week visiting the bank. “In the past week I visited the bank daily but returned disappointed.”
Ruqia, an NGO employee from Shahrestan district, said she had come to Neili to withdraw her salaries from the ban, but she could not receive them in the past three days.
“I only have 5,000 afghanis in my account, if I return back home another 1,000 afs would be spent,” she said.
But Subhan Naibi, the provincial council’s deputy head, said the closure of the branch was a result of differences between a delegation from Kabul and the branch’s staff.
When the delegation arrived, he said, it found the bank’s coffers sent into deficit. “After that the delegation introduced three officials of the bank to the attorney general’s office.”
