Kabul guesthouse attack ends with killing of 4 bombers

Kabul guesthouse attack ends with killing of 4 bombers

Oct 06, 2015 - 09:46

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A coordinated Talibaninfo-icon attack on a guesthouse in the seventh police district of Kabul ended with the killing of four bombers by security forces, an official said Tuesday.

A security source told Pajhwok Afghan News a group of four militants stormed the National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) guesthouse in Darul Aman area, close to the Russia embassy on Monday night.

He said security forces carefully responded to the assault to protect civilians. The operation ended early in the morning, with all four fighters killed, the official added.

Kabul police chief, Brig. Gen. Abdur Rahman Rahimi, told reporters seven security forces were wounded during the operation.

An eyewitness, Hikmatullah, said one of the bombers detonated his explosives at the guesthouse gate, letting his accomplices enter the building. They exchanged fire with the security forces.

He added gunfire and heavy explosions were heard in the neighbourhood throughout the night.

There were also reports that the Taliban had attacked the residence of former Helmand governor Gen. Naeem Baloch. Baloch said he had left his house half an hour before the incident.

As usual, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack and said the security forces had suffered heavy casualties. The group, however, gave no specific figures.
