High-level delegation to review Kunduz situation

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani, who met elders from northern Kunduz province, on Thursday appointed a high-level fact-finding delegation to review the troubled province’s security situation.

The delegation comprising Amrullah Saleh, a former head of the National Directorate of Security, Ghulam Farooq Warak, former educationinfo-icon minister, Fazel Karim Aimaq, Ayub Rafiqi and Abdullah Mohammadi would investigate the Kunduz incident from all angels independently, Ghani told the elders.

He also directed officials at all level to cooperate with the delegation, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.

“Based on their experience, the delegation should present clear findings to the government and the people of Afghanistaninfo-icon so that we know what happened in Kunduz,” added Ghani.

The president assured the elders that operations in northern and northeastern provinces would continue until these provinces were cleared from terrorists. He said efforts were ongoing to ensure safe return of all displaced families back to their homes.

The president also urged the elders to cooperate with the government when it came to recruitment of the youth in the national army and police.

Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, who was also present at the meeting, said apart from Kunduz province, clearing operations should be carried out in all provinces.
