14 rebels dead as attack on Alasai district repulsed

MAHMOOD RAQI (Pajhwok): At least 14 insurgents were killed and a dozen more wounded during clashes with security forces in Alasai district of central Kapisa province, officials said on Friday. But residents said around 12 civilians also suffered casualties in the crossfire.

Kapisa police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Karim Fayeq told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents staged attacks on Alasai district headquarters on Thursday from multiple directions and were pushed back after few hours of clashes.

He said 14 insurgents, including Zabihullah, one of their commanders, were killed and 12 more were wounded.

Two army soldiers and a woman were also wounded during the firefight, Fayeq added. “Insurgents attacked the Alasai district building from Badrab Mountains and two more directions early in the morning. The gun battle came to an end in the afternoon.”

The police chief said the security forces had air support, pounding enemy’s positions in the Alasai mountains.

The 201th Selab Corps said in a statement Talibaninfo-icon lost two commanders to the battle and announced the clashes were over and the situation was under control.

Sher Alam, a resident of Mir Khail locality, said a rocket hit a residential house, killing two family members and wounding three including a woman.

Sayed Khalid, another resident, said seven more civilians also suffered casualties in Dan Khail and Jafar Khail localities.
