Major offensive against Taliban in Takhar soon
TALOQAN (Pajhwok): An entire Afghan National Army (ANA) brigade has arrived in northern Takhar province to clear the province from Taliban insurgents, an official said.
Brig. Gen. Shaoor Gul, the brigade’s commander, said a major operation would be launched soon in Khwaja Ghar, Darqad, Yangi Qala, Ashkamesh and Dasht-i-Qala districts.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Currently we are on Takhar highway and on our way to Taloqan. We’ll eliminate Taliban anywhere they surface. Our people should be assured that insurgents can’t stand ground against security forces.”
He said the brigade had so far killed 30 Taliban fighters in areas along the Baghlan-Kunduz highway, removing all obstacles in order to reopen the highway for traffic.
Gen. Shaoor Gul said after ensuring security in Takhar districts, they would head to Dasht-i-Archi district of Kunduz province where Taliban had a presence.
“We’ll go behind Taliban in Dasht-i-Archi and will clear the district from their presence. Be assured that anywhere there are Taliban, we’ll go after them,” he added.
