Awaiting orders from the Presidential Palace, Dostum has said he is ready to play his role for improving the country’s security situation.
Gen. Dostum recently visited Turkey, India, Russia, Chechnya and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and met with high-ranking officials, including Russian defence minister Sergey Shoygu.
Dostum’s office on Sunday said Russia responded positively to Afghanistan’s request to comprehensively discuss and review Afghanistan’s situation given the rise of emerging threats from Daesh, Taliban and other groups in the country.
It said the Russian defence minister had promised to evaluate issues concerning technical and military support for Afghanistan and that Moscow was determined to deliver the needed assistances timely.
Sultan Faizi, media advisor at the first vice-president’s office, said Dostum’s visits to the mentioned countries were aimed to attract military and technical assistance for Afghan security forces. He said Russia’s feedback in this regard had been positive.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News the first-vice president was ready to take steps for improving security situation in all parts of the country.
“It is not important for Gen. Dostum whether it is Kunduz, Helmand, Nangarhar or other provinces to take action in any part under threat or is insecure. Like previous operations in Faryab, this time also if the people and the unity government want, he will take action,” he added.
Gen. Dostum has also contacted Kazakhstan’s defence minister through telephone requesting assistance in repairing attack helicopters and meeting other procurement demands of Afghanistan.
