Senate amends some articles of law on salaries
The amendments enable parliament members to receive government privileges and a specific amount of money after their retirement. However, the amended version has to be approved by the lower house and endorsed by the president.
The Mesharano Jirga can amend a law when at least 10 senators agree and sign the move.
Tayabah Zahid, who heads Senate public welfare commission, said lawmakers had requested the amendments and as many as 15 senators had signed the draft.
She said some articles of the law governing salaries were in contradiction with others.
She said lawmakers had been exempted from privileges after retirement under in the law’s clause 3, Article 10 and other government employees, including the judges, had been included.
She said after the approval of the amended law, allowances for retired lawmakers would be paid from the budget of the Administrative Affairs Secretariat.
The amended law would be send to the lower house for more debate and approval.
