UN offices in Kabul warned of possible attacks
KABUL (Pajhwok): The US Embassy in Kabul on Sunday warned the United Nations that suicide bombers were planning to attack its offices in Kabul, asking Americans to avoid visiting these facilities.
A statement from the US Embassy claimed receiving reliable information that central and other offices of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) could possibly be attacked by suicide bombers in coming days.
The embassy advised US citizens to refrain from going or moving around UN offices. Also the US foreign secretary had informed US citizens in Afghanistan to be more careful about their security in coming days.
Meanwhile, deputy interior minister Gen. Ayub Salangi tweeted about his meeting with UN officials to discuss security of UN offices across the country.
An Afghan employee at one of the UN offices told Pajhwok Afghan News on the condition of anonymity that UN had received security threats two days earlier.
Two main UN offices in Kabul, one in the limits of 4th police district and another in 9th municipal district on Kabul-Jalalabad road, were under security threats, he said.
