‘War imposed on Afghans to be won with unity’
KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Defence Minister Masoum Stanikzai on Monday said most of regional terrorist groups were involved in the Afghan conflict and the war imposed on Afghans would be won by their unity.
Speaking to journalists in Kabul, Stanikzai said: “The war on Afghanistan has been imposed from outside. We can eliminate this war only if we change the cause which cannot be changed without Afghans’ unity and empathy.”
“Afghan conflict is not a domestic one, but most of the regional terrorist organistaions are involved in it. For tackling it there is also a need for regional and international cooperation.”
Stanikzai added the Afghan government did not have the capacity to deploy army, police and intelligence units in each and every part of the country, but the people should cooperate.
He said terrorist groups like Al Qaeda, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, Lashkar-e-Taiba, the Haqqani Network and others had intensified their attacks in Afghanistan to expand their bases.
The acting defence minister said foreign terrorist groups had recently set up training and command and control camps in Shorabak district of Kandahar province, but as a result of major joint operations by security forces, they lost 234 fighters. Some documents from these groups obtained by security forces were under investigation, he added.
He explained it was the biggest operation in the past ten years in the district.
Regarding Kunduz City, the capital of northern Kunduz province, Stanikzai said the city had been cleared of insurgents and clearing operations were ongoing in its districts.
He also praised local people’s cooperation with security forces in pushing back insurgents’ attacks in Baharak and Shahidan districts of Badakhshan, Garzewan district of Faryab and other parts of the country.
