Improve security or resign, Ghani tells new police chiefs
KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has given a six-month ultimatum to new zonal police chiefs to improve security in areas under their control or tender resignations.
Ghani, who met with newly-appointed security officials at the Presidential Palace, said police force needed strong leadership and more courage, a statement from the Palace said on Thursday.
The president has appointed Lt. Gen. Abdul Rahman Rahimi as 101 Asmai zone police chief, Brig. Gen. Jura Biag as 202 Shmshad Zone police chief, Maj. Gen. Asadullah Sherzad as 303 Spin Ghar Zone police chief and Maj. Gen. Mashoq Ahmad Selab chief as 404 Maiwand zone police chief.
Maj. Gen. Esmatullah Dawlatzai has been appointed as 505 zone police chief in Helmand, Brig. Gen. Hassan Shah as 606 zone police chief, Maj. Gen. Mir Amanullah Guzar as 707 Pamir Zone and Lt. Gen. Sher Aziz Kamawal as 808 Kunduz zone police chief.
