3rd ASMS focusing on social media development begins
KABUL (Pajhwok): The third annual Afghanistan Social Media Summit (ASMS) began in capital Kabul bringing together the burgeoning social media community.
Government officials, youth, media-men, civil society members, artists and political figures attended the event organized by the Impassion Afghanistan organization.
Eileen Guo, co-founder of the Impassion Afghanistan, in her opening remarks said social media networks had become an important part of people’s lives and that media played a vital role in creating awareness among people about social issues and its practical example was widespread condemnation of Farkhunda’s killing.
Emal Marjan, deputy director information technology at the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology (MCIT), said the use of technology had increased in Afghanistan, but more needed to be done in this regard.
He said 20 million Afghans had access to information technology and social media, which had played vital role during different mega events such as elections, recent security incidents in Kunduz, Badakhshan and other parts of the country.
According to Marjan, the technology was in important for sharing views and promoting unity among the people of Afghanistan.
Khalilullah Sarwari, a social media user, told Pajhwok Afghan News social media gained speedy development in recent years as more youth got access to the facility and made it part of their lives.
