Dishonest officials be terminated, says Ghani

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has directed provincial civil and military authorities to remove from their jobs anyone found guilty of committing negligence in duty.

The president was addressing governors, police and intelligence chiefs of Kandahar, Zabul, Uruzgan and Daikundi provinces and commanders of the Afghan National Army’s 205th Atal Military Corps through a video conference from the Tawhid Centre at the Presidential Palace on Sunday.

The president was briefed about governance and security situations of these provinces, according to a statement from the Presidential Palace.

The statement said the officials informed the president about their achievements and activities.

The Kandahar governor, urging solution to the lack of buildings for government departments and schools, suggested increase in allocation of development budget for the southern province next fiscal year.

The governor of Zabul province urged an end to interference in the provincial administration affairs and special attention to the southern province’s development budget.

While the governor of central Urugan province demanded that higher educationinfo-icon in his province should be paid increased attention and eligible people should be appointed to government jobs.

The governor of central Daikundi province said the security situation in his province was comparatively good, but there were some groups mounting pressure on local officials and creating hurdles in their way.

After listening to their demands and proposals, the president said those officials who worked with honesty be praised and encouraged.

He directed security officials in Kabul and provinces to evaluate all threats, keeping in view changing tactics of militants and other armed groups, and present accurate reports to the Presidential Palace.

He told the security sector ministers and governors: “Appointments under pressure are neither acceptable to me nor to the people of Afghanistaninfo-icon.”

He insisted everyone found guilty of negligence or dishonesty in duty should be removed from job forthwith.

He asked the governors and the Independent Directorate of Local Governance to define standards for appointments in line with the situation of each province and hand them over the central authorities.

The president said more attention would be given to districts in the upcoming annual budget.

He also directed the governors to classify information about infrastructural development projects which had been halted in order work on them could be resumed.
