GIZ confirms release of aid worker kidnapped in mid-August
In a statement, the development organisation said: "The German GIZ employee, kidnapped some nine weeks ago in Afghanistan, is free again."
She is in good condition, "very relieved and happy" at being released, GIZ said of the woman, whose identity is yet to be disclosed.
The woman had been taken hostage from a Kabul neighbourhood on August 17 when gunmen stopped the vehicle she was travelling in and whisked her away.
In April, another employee of the agency was kidnapped in Kunduz province but was freed 40 days later as a result of a police operation.
GIZ gave no details about the circumstances of the woman's release, but German Foreign Minister Frank Walter-Steinmeier, currently on a visit ro Iran, said he was relieved at the news and thanked the security forces.
