Wardak public works director arrested
MAIDAN WARDAK (Pajhwok): The public works director for central Maidan Wardak province has been arrested on bribery charges, an official said on Sunday.
The director, Syed Yunus Najafizada, was arrested by officials from the Ministry of Interior Serious Crimes Department on Sunday afternoon, the governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
An official of the MoI department said on condition of anonymity that the director was detained with the assistance of an employee of the Public Works Department.
“The employee brought with him officials of the serious crimes to witness the scene of taking bribe by the director. The employee and his director discussed a topic when he offered $2000 in bribe to the director, it was filmed by police who caught him red-handed,” the MoI official said.
The director was then taken to Kabul by the officials, the source added.
“The director was taken to a vehicle with his head covered from the governor’s office by two persons who were talking with him,” a witness Mohammad Ilyas said.
The detained person was a former military general who has been working as public works director for the past two years.
