ANA soldier among 6 killed in Faryab fight
MAIMANA (Pajhwok): An Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier and five militants have been killed during an offensive on the Faryab-Jawzjan highway in northwestern province, an official said on Thursday.
Maj. Reza Rezaee, 209th Shaheen Military Corps spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants attacked a supply convoy of ANA in the Shikhha area of Dawlatabad district on Wednesday night.
He said that the Taliban retreated after a number of commandos arrived at the site in support of ANA soldiers. One soldier was killed and one ANA vehicle torched during the clash.
Five rebels were also killed and six of their motorbikes were torched by the security forces. Dawlatabad district chief Syed Abdul Salam Nazhat said the vehicle torched was full of cannons that exploded, damaging parts of the road.
However, Taliban militants claimed killing five ANA soldiers and forcing the military supply convoy to return.
