5 health workers kidnapped in Faryab’s Kohistan district
MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Five health workers of a clinic in the Kohistan district of northwestern Faryab province have been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen, an official said on Sunday.
The town’s administrative head, Imamyar Taqwa, told Pajhwok Afghan News the medics travelling in a vehicle full of medicine were heading from Maimana to Kohistan.
He said they were kidnapped in Khwaja Hashtmin area late on Saturday.The kidnapped health workers included Clinic Director Dr. Naqibullah, a nurse, two midwives and a driver.
Taqwaadded they had named local elders to negotiate the workers’ release themwith the gunmen in the Taliban-controlled area. He asked health organisations to help rescue the clinic workers.
Faryab Public Health Director Dr. Abdul Ali Halim said medics were neutral people serving all the masses without any discrimination. He slammed their abduction as illegal.“We are trying to rescue the health workers.”
