Security forces repel rebels attack on Paktika district
Jahan Baz, a local resident, told Pajhwok Afghan News, heavy fighting was ongoing between security forces and the Taliban in the limits of district.
However, Governor Spokesman Nabiullah Perkhel denied clashes with insurgents, saying situation was under control and there was no fighting.
“Two days back insurgents had tried to attack the district and were engaged in gun battle with security forces, last night there was exchange of fire but not heavy,” he said.
But Zahibullah Mujahid, a Taliban’s spokesman, said they surrounded the Waza Khawa district and their fighters were few metres away from the main district bazaar.
Separately, four Taliban were killed, two wounded and three others arrested during National Directorate of Security (NDS) personnel raid, the governor’s spokesman said.
Salim Saliah said the raid took place Friday night in Zarghon Shahr locality of Mohammad Agah district of Logar province.
Taliban have yet to comment over the incident.
