5 police wounded as Taliban torch security post in Paktia

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): At least five border security forces were wounded during ongoing clashes with militants who torched a security post in Dand Patan district of southeastern Paktia province, an official said Sunday.

The 402nd Border Zone commander, Brig. Gen. Abdul Basir Khpalwak told Pajhwok Afghan News that hundreds of Taliban attacked border security posts in the district Saturday night. He said that the clashes were still ongoing.

Five border security personnel were wounded and a security post was torched during the fight, Khpalwak said, adding that Afghan forces were strongly resisting to the Taliban attacks.

 He did not identify the assailants and said their nationalities would be exposed soon.

Ajab Gul, a tribal elder in Dand Patan district said that a large number of rebels stormed border security posts in Moqbil area of the district last night.

He had no information about casualties, but said that militants captured two security posts.

Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the group’s attack on border security forces and claimed that militants captured four security posts and inflicted heavy casualties to border security personnel.

Earleir, Taliban captured two border posts in Dand Patan district and killed a large number of security forces during their attack.
