Ministry of Finance secure new ADB grants for the infrastructure development
1st November 2015:Deputy Finance Minister Dr. Mastoor visited the headquarters of the Asian Development to discuss ADB’s new grant assistance for Afghanistan’s infrastructure building.
Deputy Finance Minister H.E. Dr. Mustafa Mastoor met the President of the Asian Development Bank, Mr. Takesiko Nako and senior ADB leadership including ADB’s Vice President and Ambassador Robert Orr – Executive Director for the United States at Bank.
During this high-level meeting, the ADB and contributing donor countries made a new commitment of USD 858 millions grants for Afghanistan’s infrastructure development for the upcoming years 2017 to 2020.
The main themes of discussion between the ADB President and Dr. Mastoor revolved around infrastructure development, regional connectivity through ADB’s investments in railways, road and energy networks.
ADB is the lead and the largest infrastructure development partner in Afghanistan. These important financial contributions to Afghanistan will promote economic growth, energy transmission, private sector investment, and build and run infrastructure to promote security and drive development.
During the meetings, ADB leadership expressed ADB’s keen desire in remaining a reliable partner to Afghanistan and assured Bank’s continued support and engagement in the country for many years to come. In return, Dr. Mastoor thanked ADB for its generous support to the people of Afghanistan.
