Construction work on 17 kilometres road underway in Kunduz
KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): With the construction of a 17 kilometres road in northern Kunduz province, a two hours travel between Khanabad district and the provincial capital would be reduced to 30 minutes, an official said on Tuesday.
Public Works Director Bahram Shinwari told Pajhwok Afghan News the road project, which was launched recently, was being financed by the Ministry of Public Works and its asphalting took six months to complete.
The road connected a hundred villages to the district center, he said, asking security organs and local people to cooperate in maintaining security for the project implementation.
A resident of the Ishkchi area of Khanabad district, Mansoor, said they would transport their crops and patients on donkeys and other animals to the district center due to the absence of a proper road.
At times, patients would dies on their way to the health clinic. “We reach the district center in two hours. Once the road is constructed, we will be able to get there within 30 minutes,” he added.
Nazak Mir, a resident of Sandoq Sai village, said some of their agricultural produce would go rotten on the way to the Khanabad bazaar. He is pleased about the road asphalting project, which would facilitate the locals.
