Ex-govt officials out to overthrow unity govt, claims Abdullah
KABUL (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah on Wednesday accused former officials of trying to bring down the government for its failure to control insecurity in the country.
During a meeting with members of civil society, Abdullah said the traditional Loya Jirga could not be summoned into session in violation of the national constitution to deal with minor issues.
The CEO acknowledged the incumbent administration was up against a whole host of challenges and faced growing criticism. The government should try its best to ensure security, national unity and institution building.
In addition to militants, some other elements were also scheming against the unity government, he claimed. “These ex-government apologists are out to see the overthrow the current administration because they have lost the privileges they enjoyed in the past.”
Although some elements were unhappy with the present democratic dispensation over certain issues, the people at large and civil society would continueto back the government, because the alternative was absolute insecurity, he reasoned.
Theelectoral reform panel was working on its assignment satisfactorily, the CEO said, adding parliamentary elections should be conducted in time and in line with the constitution.
But in the current situation, he explained, it was not possible to conduct the elections and at the same time work on convening the Loya Jirga, in which real public representatives had to participate to address questions of national importance -- not small issues.
