One religious scholars dead in blast, another in shooting
GHAZNI CITY/SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Two religious scholars have been killed in separate incidents in southern Ghazni and northwestern Jawzjan provinces, officials said on Friday.
Director of Islamic programs of Saadat Radio StationGhulam JilaniIrfani, who also headed the Jami Aulia Madrasa, was killed in a bomb blast in the capital of Ghazni province this morning.
Deputy Governor Mohammad Ali Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News the scholar was killed when a magnetic bomb attached to Irfani’s car went off. Two children of the scholar were injured in the blast, which is currently under investigation.
Dr. Noorullah, a doctor at the Ghazni Civil Hospital, confirmed receiving the scholar’s dead body and two of his children in wounded condition.Irfanialso served as khatib of several mosques.
He had condemned a 2011 attack on Kabul Bank branch in Jalalabad, where 40 people including civilians and bank officers were killed. Irfanihad denounced the attack as un-Islamic. Later, the Taliban warned him of death.
In a separate incident, three National Directorate of Security (NDS) personnel were wounded in another bomb explosion in Ghazni City.Ahmadi said civilians suffered no casualties in the attack.
Separately, another scholar was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Jawzjan province, said police officer Col. Abdul Manan Raufi, who identified the victim as Mullah Khudayar.
The man was shot dead shortly after leaving a Quran Khwani programme in the Yangi Arigh area of Shiberghan, the provincial capital. The attackers fled after committing the murder.
