Daesh, Taliban fighters locked in fierce battle in Arghandab
QALAT (Pajhwok): Daesh, or so-called Islamic State (IS), and Taliban fighters clashed in the southern province of Zabul, inflicting casualties on each other, security officials said on Saturday.
The ongoing clash took place when Daesh members attacked Taliban at 3am in Khak-i-Afghan and Arghandab districts. The Taliban captured some of Daesh-controlled areas, the deputy police chief said.
Col. Ghulam Jilani Farahi told Pajhwok Afghan News both sides had suffered casualties, but exact numbers were yet to be known. A fierce battle is going on in the district.
Arghandab district chief, Haji Mohmand Nasratyar, confirmed the firefight but had no information about casualties, because telecommunication firms are not operating in the area.
However, two residents of the district, who wanted to go unnamed, said at least three injured Taliban fighters were shifted to Sardara area. They said the Taliban had captured some IS insurgents and their family members.
