18 detained on land-grab charges in Logar
PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Security forces have arrested 18 persons over confiscating government land and constructing houses on it in central Logar province, officials said on Monday.
The individuals were detained for grabbing public property in compliance with a presidential decree, said Logar police chief Brig. Gen. Mohamamd Daud Ahmadi.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News the detainees were captives in custody of National Directorate of Security (NDS) officials.
“In compliance with the decree, we have to demolish all illegal houses and arrest land grabbers,” he said, adding that nearly 1500 acres of government land had been occupied by people in Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital.
Meanwhile, Logar governor’s spokesman Saleem Saleh told Pajhwok Afghan News land grabbing had prevented development activities in the province. “We plan to recover all land grabbed by people,” he said.
However, a resident of the city, Obaidullah whose mother was among the detainees, said all those arrested had committed no crime. “The government should arrest the main encroachers.”
