Taliban surround Waza Khwa district centre
SHARANA (Pajhwok): Taliban fighters besieged Waza Khwa district centre after days of clashes with security forces in southeastern Paktika province, officials said on Monday.
The clashes that continued for 12 days between Taliban and security forces have so far left a woman and a child dead and two police and as many civilians wounded, provincial deputy police chief Nisar Ahmad Abdul Rahimzai told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the Taliban insurgents had also suffered casualties, but they had not exact figures. “The Taliban have blocked all roads to the district centre and we are trying to send reinforcements,” he said.
A policeman and a tribal elder were wounded during Monday’s firefight between the rebels and security forces, a resident of the troubled district, Noor Mohammad, said.
