275 teachers being distributed land plots in Khost
KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): The process of distributing plots to schoolteachers under a township scheme began Tuesday in the southeastern province of Khost, officials said.
The township to be consisted of 275 houses for teachers from Gurbaz and Tani districts is being constructed on 60 acres of land in Seegai area of Tani district, Governor Hukam Khan Habibi told a ceremony marking the launch of the distribution process.
Each of the 275 teachers would a plot, a scheme approved by former president Hamid Karzai nine years ago. However, teachers could not be issued plots due to confiscation of the land by some powerful people, the governor said.
He said they would distribute more plots to other teachers in different parts of the province.
Hakeem Khan, a teacher, said he had been associated with the profession for the past 25 years and it was for the first time teachers availed such privileges.
Another teacher Lal Saaduddin was happy over the issuance of plots, saying the government should pay more attention to teachers’ economic condition.
