Ghani, Carter confer on strengthening Afghan Air Force
KABUL (Pajhwok): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani insisted on strengthening and equipping the Afghan Air Force (AAF) and artillery, his office said on Friday.
During a video call with US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter, the president discussed the current capacity of Afghanistan security and defence forces, reform and development plans.
Ghani thanked the US for its continued support for training and equipping Afghan forces, a statement form the Presidential Palace said. Both sides decided to utilise the capacity and experiences they had gained.
The president also called for devising an effective strategy for maintainingpeace, ending the war, securing areas, disruption of enemy operations and stability in secureparts of the country.
In response, Carter hailed the capability and successes of Afghan forces as a turning point. He also updated Ghani on the Obama administration’s request for Congressionalapproval of financial support to Afghan forces.
Ghani referred to efforts for the development of the Afghan Air Force.He stressed the need for further equipping, strengthening and training the AAF and artillery forces, the statement said.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) also underlined the imperative of having an air force for dealing with complex security challenges. Ghani and Carter shared his view, agreeing on the need for strengthening the AAF.
