KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Monday ruled out any compromise over the country’s Constitution and national values for the sake of peace, saying his government was making efforts for peace that served national interests.

The president was addressing a gathering named “Jirga in support of change, justice and reforms” attended by 1,500 youth from across the country in Kabul.

At the start of the gathering, some representatives of the youth talked about their concerns and shared their problems with the president and also floated some suggestions.

President Ghani said peace and war had their own costs but they would not seek peace that was against Islamic instructions and the country’s constitution and that political problems in this regard existed and would be resolved.

He said the reconciliation must bring the war to an end and there should be no conspiracy under the pretext of peace. The president said Afghanistan’s enemies wanted to divide the country into two parts in order to bring the Afghan government to its knees.

“We want dignified and lasting peace not by sacrificing the constitution and our values. Everyone who has political problems, we are ready to talk with.”

The president asked the youth to accept the responsibility of rebuilding their country because all other ways had been blocked.

He called the youth the real victim of the war and urged them to remain in their country and do not flee to foreign countries.

About anti-corruption efforts, the president said in the past ministries had never carried out contracts in accordance with the law, but now the procurement commission had been established and the body had saved five billion afghanis in contracts of one ministry alone.
